About Me – Gary O’Toole

My passion for Vedic astrology began early and has evolved into a lifelong pursuit. Since 1996, I have trained with some renowned teachers, including Pearl Finn and Komilla Sutton. Visti Larsen has also been a mentor. I trained in counselling and studied Ayurveda with the American Institute of Vedic Studies and at the International Academy of Ayurveda. I am a member of the British Association of Vedic Astrology (BAVA) and have lectured at BAVA and at the Astrological Association (AA) conferences. I am a founding member of the International Sidereal Astrology Association (ISAA). |
My Philosophy
When people see their whole life mapped out in a timeline, many ask, "Do I not have free will to choose?” Well, you cannot choose the weather, can you? Or the way the tides turn? You may not even have a choice in how you react to what is unfolding. But you can, with a cosmic view, change your perception, which is all you need to change your life's trajectory.
Astrology reveals the 'cosmic weather patterns'; where you are on the vast ocean of your life. With this awareness, a deeper part of you that is naturally aligned with all-that-is reveals itself. A term for this in Sanskrit is prātibha, meaning ‘intuitive knowledge’. It's a spontaneous cognition, without any direct input, the innate awareness of an underlying ‘cosmic current’, an inherent pattern you are a part of.
It’s all happening perfectly. Not because life is always easy, but because even your struggles and detours belong to this pattern. You may not be able to control the tides (daśās or 'time periods') or weather patterns (transits), but your awareness of the pattern is a recognition of your innate freedom to choose. Having a timeline doesn’t remove your choice; it refines it.
Practically speaking, having a timeline helps you prep. If a period is likely to be stormy, you know to batten down the hatches and ride it out. If you know when a more challenging period is ending, it brings enormous peace.
This typically occurs at some point when consulting clients, where I note someone’s initial resistance to the pattern begin to soften, and a lightness and acceptance begin to arise within them. Even if nothing externally changes, this shift in perception is what changes their external lives eventually. And anyway, the weather and tides keep changing. Together with this recognition, one cultivates a stillness within, no matter the weather.
Astrology, as I practise it, is not about resisting your timeline, but learning how to move with it.

Timeline Astrology Publications
I began Timeline Astrology Publications in 2023 to fill a gap in quality Vedic astrology publications, covering Indian astrological techniques for a wider audience. I have written and published three books:
