What was your first thought when you read the title of this article? Did you think of explosions or of blowing things out of proportion? Your answer might be somewhat telling.
While I’m conscious of not overblowing it, it’s important to make the most of exalted transits when they come along, especially if you’ve been down in the doldrums of late. But it’s probably not a good idea to expect too much from one planet, even if it’s the biggest one. Expectation is the cause of all suffering, and whatnot.
Yet if you are in a Jupiter period (daśā) on any meaningful level, and Jupiter is strong in your birth chart, you’re likely to benefit from this transit in a big way.
The downside is dreaming so big that reality falls flat. Another is biting off more than you can chew, thinking you can manage the extras that come into your life when you cannot. We tend to overestimate our capabilities, especially when a strong Jupiter is involved.
While I cannot give financial advice - or any advice for that matter - it’s worth noting that once Jupiter speeds through Cancer in just five months, it meets with Mars and the South Node Ketu in Leo, before they all return to Cancer at the beginning of 2027. Once this happens, all bets are off. Jupiter has a big impact on the economy, showing patterns of peaks and dips when doing so many extreme things in a short space of time.
After Jupiter has sped through a peak, its retrograde in exaltation behaves as if it’s debilitated. This occurs from January 25 to April 13, 2027. As it backtracks alongside Ketu and Mars, the economy is likely to go through many ups and downs as a result. Your hopes and dreams are likely doing the same backflips.
We may see some particularly volatile events by late 2026 and early 2027, some of which chime with what happened in the 1930s, at least in the economic sense, as this was the last time all three came together in Leo (see below). By May/June 2027, we’re likely over the worst (and best) of it, as Mars and Jupiter move back into Leo, leaving Ketu behind in Cancer.
By this point, you may mean you may no longer believe something is possible, or you may finally believe something is. It all depends on how high you began the journey.
But this is Jupiter in its most exalted state, I hear you say. Why is this not more positive?
Personally, this can be extremely positive (see For Each Sign below); however, in the world at large, it tends towards more extremes, including increased fanaticism, which tends to backfire at some point.
Iran’s current religious regime was formed during the 1979 Revolution, when Jupiter was transiting Cancer. This is likely one of the most impacted nations for its next transit of Cancer.
As we have seen borne out in historical events, Jupiter in Cancer instils hope for those in dire situations, where revolutions are not uncommon when people have nothing to lose.
Unlike the dreamy Pisces, Jupiter’s transit in Cancer is its most awake state, which can show the potential for making your dreams a reality. This may clear some of the confusion you’ve been dealing with, especially in the Pisces sector of your chart. Yet you must be aware of the other side of what is always possible, that is, more delusions.
Still, Jupiter’s exalted aspect to Pisces can shine the light of truth at last.
The Previous Jupiter in Cancer Transit
The best way to gauge how an upcoming transit might land is to view the previous one, although one must be careful of copying and pasting outdated data and interpretations.
The disadvantage of looking at its previous transit, although it has been 12 years, is that you may have certain biases about a situation in your more recent memory. Yet still, it’s a good idea to look at the past to gauge what might happen in the future, without getting lost in an imaginary future - or the past, for that matter.
Don’t forget (!), every time you recall the past, you’re reimagining it, so that you never remember an event in the past, as such; you just remember what you last remembered.
And therein lies another theme with Jupiter in Cancer: nostalgia. This can be a positive or negative thing, depending on what you’re reminiscing about, and if it’s helping your current situation or not.
This leads to another big thing about Jupiter, that is, the need for comfort. This is why you’re nostalgic, of course, and why Indian astrology considers Jupiter to represent the sweet taste. Eating sweet foods comforts you. But there’s a deeper comfort on offer from Jupiter in Cancer, that of connecting deeply to your heart and to others who share the same sentiments.
Yet you may spend the entire transit dreaming of how wonderful things were, or could have been, not doing anything about what could be now.
The Last Time
Jupiter transited sidereal (star sign) Cancer between June 19, 2014 and July 13, 2015.
Here are some world events to reflect on how these might land for the next go around:
June 2014: The Islamic State declared a caliphate after seizing large parts of Iraq and Syria. This triggered an international military response, including US-led airstrikes.
July–August 2014: Conflict between the Israel Defence Forces and Hamas in Gaza. Over 2,000 Palestinians and 70+ Israelis were killed.
July 17, 2014: Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 was shot down over eastern Ukraine, with all 298 passengers killed; linked to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
2014–2015: Ebola virus disease devastates Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. Thousands of deaths; global health emergency declared.
Sept–Dec 2014: Umbrella Movement demands electoral reform in Hong Kong. Massive street occupations and global attention.
Jan 7, 2015 (Jupiter Retrograde): Attack on Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris, with twelve people killed, followed by further attacks over several days.
March 2015: Saudi-led coalition intervenes in Yemen against Houthi rebels. The ongoing humanitarian crisis began to deepen.
April 25, 2015: Devastating earthquake hits Nepal, with nearly 9,000 deaths and widespread destruction of cultural heritage sites.
May/June 2015: Same-sex marriage was legalised in the US, and in Ireland, voted for by the people of Ireland.
July 14, 2015 (just as Jupiter exited Cancer for Leo): Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action agreed between Iran and world powers. A landmark diplomatic agreement on nuclear restrictions.
2014–2015: Thousands attempt to cross into Europe (hoping for a better life), leading to numerous shipwrecks and deaths.
Across this one year, a few strong patterns stand out that chime with our current period. There was a rise in warfare and terrorism (ISIS, Paris attacks), humanitarian crises (Ebola, Yemen, migration), political instability (Ukraine, Middle East), major natural disasters (Nepal earthquake), and social transformation (marriage equality). We’re likely to see some continuation of these themes in some form again.
Not all of that sounds very exalted, does it? But wait, what does exalted actually mean?
Exalted does not mean we’re having a good time, necessarily. Exalted is more about dignity. And dignity is often fought for by people who are often in a desperate situation.
People rise when they have nothing to lose or when they are hopeful about making a positive change.
Jupiter exalted in sidereal Cancer tends to amplify themes of protection, homeland, belonging, and emotional responses. When that expands collectively, it can show up as uprisings and revolutions against powers that don’t have our best interests at heart.
Pluto’s transit in Capricorn continues to chip away at our confidence in governments doing the right thing, reflected in Cancer and how unsafe we feel with the changes in the world. When Jupiter in Cancer opposes Pluto in Capricorn, it’s likely to further fuel a need for change.
It may also fuel some things on the list from the last time we’d prefer not to, of course, including a new virus, which took off as Mars, Saturn, and Neptune gathered in Pisces. As Pluto and Jupiter oppose, while Jupiter aspects Pisces, it reminds us of the Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter conjunction of 2020.
Though I do not think we’re looking at another pandemic, I do think an epidemic is possible, looking at these transits.

History Repeating
The French Revolution (Began in 1789)
The French Revolution began as Jupiter entered Cancer in 1789. The Storming of the Bastille occurred as Jupiter conjoined Uranus in the sign. There was a collective uprising driven by hunger, inequality, and the protection of the people (very Cancerian).
There are other repeating patterns in 2026-2027, including Saturn in Pisces, aspected by an exalted Jupiter, and Pluto is once again in Capricorn. All of this last happened in 1789.
Once Mars and Ketu come together in Leo in late 2026, yet another pattern is repeated from the Storming of the Bastille.
I cannot imagine what that might mean for this day and age.
Global Economic Collapse (1930s)
The Great Depression intensified in 1931, as the banking crisis deepened in Europe, leading to mass unemployment, poverty, and displacement. This occurred as Jupiter met with Mars and Ketu in Leo, a pattern that repeats by the end of 2026.
In September 1931, the Bank of England ceased exchanging pound notes for gold, and the pound was floated on foreign exchange markets.
Will we see big changes in late 2026 and early 2027, as banks and governments back more digital currencies?
World War II Intensifies (1943)
By 1943, the war had reached a decisive phase as Jupiter entered Cancer. One of the deadliest battles in history concluded with Soviet victory in the Battle of Stalingrad (ended February 1943). There was massive civilian suffering in the drawn-out defence of the homeland. The people endured much hardship to protect their home (a Cancerian theme).
The Battle of Kursk was the largest tank battle in history, marking a strategic shift against Nazi Germany. Benito Mussolini was also overthrown, as Italy began to collapse internally. All of this occurred with Jupiter in Cancer, conjunct Pluto.
In 2026-2027, Jupiter is opposite Pluto.
Iraq War & Global Protests (2003)
The Iraq War began during Jupiter’s transit in Cancer, with the largest coordinated protests in history taking place in February 2003.
A Personal Boost
What happens in the world is very different to what happens in your personal life during a Jupiter in Cancer transit. Look to the last transit between June 2014 and July 2015 to see how this one might land for you.
Do you remember what was happening in your life in 2014-2015? Which daśās were you experiencing? This makes a big difference. Which daśās are you experiencing while Jupiter transits Cancer this time around?
What areas of your life does Jupiter represent? Where are Sagittarius and Pisces by house position in your birth chart? What area of your life does Cancer represent? How strong is the Moon in your chart? And Jupiter itself?
As Jupiter transits Cancer, no matter how exalted it may be, if Jupiter or the Moon is weakly placed in your birth chart, something groundbreaking would need to happen for you to see the world in a more positive light - if you typically view it in more negative ways.
Even then, you’re likely to slip back to your typical way of thinking once the transit passes. Even lottery winners end up where they started; sometimes, financially, but always, emotionally.
The only thing that has a long-lasting impact on your way of thinking and being is a major daśā of Jupiter (16 years). If you’re in one at this time, Jupiter’s exaltation is more likely to bring beneficial changes.
For everyone else, one transit, no matter how wonderful it might be to feel a new sense of hope for a while, is unlikely to change your life in any significant way beyond the transit. Please keep this in mind to keep things in perspective.
If you have a weak Jupiter in your birth chart, such as in Capricorn, without any mitigating factors, you’re more likely to be pessimistic. Jupiter’s exaltation may only raise your hopes slightly, as opposed to someone who is inherently optimistic. In that case, optimists may experience the other extreme: dreaming up all kinds of fantastical things that are not achievable.
The best you can hope for is to receive an added boost to whatever Jupiter, including Sagittarius and Pisces, represents for you. Cancer will experience a big boost, but you can also add Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces into the mix, as Jupiter aspects (looks at) these signs.
Pisces is most likely to welcome the attention of Jupiter, its home sign, especially with Saturn and Neptune in the sign. This can relieve much of the uncertainty this has brought about. But it may also increase something that we’ve been seeing more and more during their conjunction in the sign: mass delusions with the help of AI.
When we feel intense uncertainty (Saturn and Neptune), we’re more likely to believe anyone or anything to relieve it. Jupiter’s aspect and influence may actually increase delusions for some.
