Jupiter enters sidereal Cancer on October 18, 2025. Its return to exaltation after 12 years is a time of renewed hope and optimism. It’s also likely a time of uprisings. When people feel more hopeful, they’re more likely to rise against oppressive regimes.
The last time Jupiter transited sidereal Cancer was between June 2014 and July 2015, during which time we saw the Hong Kong ‘Umbrella Movement’. This was the name given to the peaceful protests that used umbrellas as a tool for passive resistance to police during a 79-day occupation of the city, demanding more transparent elections.
The umbrellas that were used were yellow, a colour associated with Jupiter!

Yet Jupiter in exaltation is not all sweetness and light (neither was the Umbrella Movement), especially once it retrogrades, which it did when, on January 7, 2015, with the Moon conjunct a retrograde Jupiter in Cancer, we saw the killing of 12 people at the Charlie Hebdo Magazine in Paris. This sparked a global movement in condemnation of the Islamist extremists who carried out the attacks. There were many other astrological indicators of an attack at the time, but it’s worth noting that when Jupiter is retrograde (twisted) in exaltation, it brings out darker themes related to strongly-held beliefs. You can read more about this phenomenon in my article here.
Since then, we’ve had some major ups and downs, many hopes and fears, reflected in Jupiter’s subsequent transits. There was the pandemic and economic downturn in 2020, once Jupiter met with Pluto and Saturn before entering Capricorn, its sign of debilitation. Jupiter moved in and out of Capricorn on three separate occasions in 2020 and 2021, before meeting with Neptune in Aquarius and Pisces in 2021 and 2022. We become more aware of the inseparable link between our hopes and fears in times like these.
Jupiter then met with Rahu (North Node) in Aries in 2023, where war took centre stage. In 2024, Jupiter met with Uranus in Aries and Taurus, bringing those hopes and fears into the economy more so. In 2025, Jupiter’s entry into Gemini brought more confusion about what is true, with accusations of rigged US elections coming from sources where that seemed more plausible (point a finger and three point back at you!).
Now that Jupiter is about to enter Cancer in 2025, we’re more hopeful than ever - because we’re also more fearful than ever. Jupiter in Cancer will sit across from Pluto in Capricorn.
This has happened before.
The French Revolution
The French Revolution began in 1789 during a Jupiter in Cancer transit while Pluto was transiting Capricorn (the last time Pluto did so). Once Jupiter had entered Capricorn in 1783, France’s financial crisis had worsened due to the country supporting another revolution: The American Revolution. After years of inequality and injustice, after a downturn in living standards in France, and a widening gap between the rich and poor (sound familiar?), Jupiter’s entry into Cancer brought a renewed sense of hope that revolting against the powers that be would make a difference. Indeed, it did.
Fast-forward over a couple of centuries, and Pluto is back in Capricorn, slowly dismantling the world order once again. And, just as it was then, we’re likely to see the winds of change blow in and lift the spirits of those who believe something positive can be done to change the current system. This will likely occur more so in 2026, once Jupiter moves back into Cancer, transiting here for much of the following year.
In 2025, it’s merely having a peek at what is possible. After moving in on October 18, it stations retrograde at the first degree of the sign by November 11, returning to Gemini on December 6. It will not return to Cancer until June 1, 2026, and until October 31. It will briefly enter Leo, the sign of Kings, by the end of 2026, before returning for a third time to Cancer by January 24, 2027, until July 25 of that year.
This in and out of exaltation, with its final ingress into the backend of Cancer being conjunct Ketu (South Node), it’s likely to bring more extreme ups and downs, generally, economically.
This has happened before.
The Great Depression
The last time Jupiter was conjunct Ketu in Cancer was in 1931 and 1932, during the Great Depression. When Jupiter is both exalted and retrograde, it’s as if it’s debilitated. Hopes are dashed, and new hopes spring forth. The Great Depression began because of the stock market crash of 1929, and there are similarities between that period and our current one.
Once Jupiter moves in and out of Cancer (on three separate occasions) from the end of 2025 until the middle of 2027, we’re likely to see more volatility as it moves between Cancer and Leo. This juncture is called gandanta in Indian astrology, a sensitive ‘gap’ that is created between water and fire signs that do not have any overlapping lunar mansions. Adding Ketu into the mix – first, in Leo, and again in Cancer when Jupiter is retrograde – we’re likely to see some major economic adjustments. Ketu may be the ‘remover of obstacles’, but it also simply removes things many times. Thankfully, Jupiter’s strength can often curtail too much destruction; however, its retrograde alongside Ketu in February 2027 is likely a turning point.
The Revolution Will be Televised
The upcoming revolution will be televised, streamed live, for all to see. That’s one thing we can be sure of during Jupiter’s transit in Cancer this time around. It has already begun in certain regions. The Gen Z Protests in Nepal, for example, themselves inspired by protests in Indonesia, show how online platforms can serve as drivers (pardon the pun) for change, overthrowing governments.
That’s the one good thing about Jupiter’s transit in Gemini, at least. Its move into Cancer, a more emotionally connected sign, as well as its return to Gemini from December 2025 to June 2026, is likely to make more people feel more connected, both online and offline.
Indeed, a ‘No Kings’ protest is planned across the US on the very day Jupiter ingresses into Cancer (October 18, 2025). While this is short-lived, as Jupiter then stations retrograde by November 11, some new hope is sparked that will be triggered in an even bigger way from June 2026.
When we hope for something better, and that something is dangled in front of us but then taken away temporarily, we may despair. But that despair also leads to a fresh wave of hope when the winds change.
We must have faith in the following months, especially as Jupiter retrogrades from November 11, 2025, and until March 11, 2026, when Jupiter begins to move forward once again. Once Jupiter returns to Cancer by June 1, 2026, protestors are likely to feel more enthusiastic about the possibilities of something better – for everyone, not just an elite few.
Not everyone will rejoice, of course. Jupiter in Cancer transits the 12th house of loss for prominent Leo leaders like Donald Trump. For Leo, Jupiter rules the 5th house of followers. This is another reason Jupiter's transit in Cancer lends itself to overthrowing current leaders. Jupiter is about to right some wrongs.
It has happened before. It will happen again.
