Full Moon in Virgo Total Lunar Eclipse April 4 The Moon reaches the sign Virgo by April 2 and continues to transit alongside the north node, Rahu for the full Moon phase on April 3. This transit culminates in a total lunar eclipse on April 4 and is an emotionally intense few days. Watch for emotions getting out of hand (pardon the pun, as this eclipse occurs in the sign Hasta which translates as 'hand'). Likewise, watch for the tendency to try to control your emotions. The sign Hasta has the ability to direct and control an outcome and, although our minds benefit from some discipline, suppressing what you are feeling is not necessarily beneficial in the long run. With Mercury moving through the opposite sign Pisces we may be feeling a little lost for words as our emotions become heightened, and our rational minds cannot operate effectively. One way to express these transits is to express your raw emotions in some form of discipline which does not suppress what you are feeling, yet doesn't get you caught up in the details of why you are feeling the way you are. This is a culmination point after the recent solar eclipse and reflects a balancing of these unsettling experiences (Pisces) within our everyday routines (Virgo). It is time to take all those mystical experiences and test them in the laboratory of our everyday lives. This lunar eclipse will be visible from western North America, eastern Asia, the Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. However, as always, the eclipse day itself is best reserved for quiet contemplation and reflection, not necessarily outward observation. However, with Saturn looking on from the opposite sign Scorpio we are reminded not to overindulge or become too attached to transient things. Taurus represents the need to indulge the senses and can lend itself to feelings of comfort and peace of mind once the stormy emotions have abated by the second week of April - after the Moon has moved into Sagittarius by April 10. When the Sun moves into exaltation by April 14, joining Mars, we can really begin to feel the strong effects of these more powerful transits in our lives. Jupiter is about to move direct in its sign of exaltation and this adds more clarity. Make sure to access a sense of connection with others as this is needed during our selfish pursuits with Mars and the Sun strongly placed. All of these transits point to living life fully and going for what we want, while appreciating others in our lives. A good mix and good feelings for the latter part of April. Jupiter Stations Direct April 8 Jupiter stations in the sign of Cancer, its sign of exaltation, on April 8. We can now focus on what we have found to be meaningful and how we can move forward with what truly benefits us in our lives. It may take some time to put those aspirations to work but now is a good time to focus our attention and make clear our intentions with the powerful transits in April. Jupiter's retrograde period has twisted people's strongly held belief's and made some take actions which were detrimental to others. Take a moment to consider the impact your wish for a heaven on earth has on others and whether your dreams serve you as an individual, as well as your family and community as a whole. This is especially pertinent as Mars is strong and the Sun is about to join it from April 14. He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven Mercury in Aries April 12 - April 27 Mercury speeds through the first sign of the zodiac in April. Blink and you'll miss it! Better still, keep your eyes closed for some of this transit so as to delve deeply within and avoid some of the noise people make during this 'loud' transit. Mercury in Aries is brash and impulsive in speech and this may spill out into arguments at times. Our exchanges can become a little curt as the planet of communication joins the Sun and Mars in this fire-dominant sign. The Sun and Mars are particularly strong at this point so the humour and flexibility of Mercury can feel a little strained. But at least logic can now come to the foreground and leave our irrational thinking behind. Such is the case with Mercury in Pisces until mid-April. As our minds work out the many new possibilities in our lives it can lead to mental tension and headaches. Work this off in some form of physical activity and lay the weight of your head on something soft and reassuring. Drop into your body for some exercise and keep your sense of humour as your mind gets ahead of circumstances. All of this leads to a period of reflection and recuperation in May. So, for now be aware of the tendency to overdo it so that you do not have as much recovering to do later! Sun in Aries April 14 - May 13 The Sun moves into its sign of exaltation from April 14 and things begin to heat up, both literally and figuratively. The Sun does very well in Aries, Mars' fire-dominant sign, because a strong sense of Self suits, well, the Self! Get out there. Do what you have to do. Shine in your own unique way. You are a powerful being. The whole Universe is conspiring to keep you here. So, what are you going to do? New Moon in Aries April 18 The new Moon is at 18.57 UT (add an hour for GMT), representing a new beginning after the waning phase of the Moon through April 17/18. This occurs in the lunar sign, Ashwini which is contained in Mars's sign Aries and ruled by the south node of the Moon, Ketu. This begins the new lunar month in a less dramatic fashion than last's month's total solar eclipse. However, the influence of Ketu is still prominent as the Moon joins the Sun in Ashwini. Ketu's influence is always to bring the unexpected which reminds us of our eternal nature. This is usually experienced through some loss on the material plane of existence. Use this new Moon phase to allow the many positive changes which are taking place with strong transits to be assimilated in a quiet and reflective environment, as you prepare to begin again with more confidence. Akshaya Tritiya April 20/21 Every year the Sun and Moon come around to their place of exaltation in Spring and this is known in the Hindu calendar as Akshaya Tritiya. Akshaya means 'undiminished'. This occurs on the third lunar day (Tritiya) in the month of Vaisakha. This is a particularly auspicious day and one which can be taken advantage of in order to begin something new in our lives. This year we have the added bonus of Jupiter in exaltation, as well as Mars and Venus placed in their own signs. This is a strong time of the year and a particularly positive juncture moving forward; a welcome return to self-assurance after all of the recent uncertainty. Mercury in Taurus April 27 - July 5
Mercury joins Venus in Taurus by the end of April, just before Venus leaves Mercury to its deliberations in May and June. We must begin to slow our speed for the upcoming Mercury retrograde period from May 19 to June 11. If not, our minds can become too busy as we begin to review recent events along with the usual input from external sources. So, it is advisable to plan to take some time out from the many distractions available to the mind in this technological era this coming May and June. At least some time out is needed in some form or other and, as we know from previous rest periods, there comes a point where we must initiate a deceleration in order to prepare to stop and retreat. The beginning of May is one such period. Just as a runner must slow down in order to stop, our minds need to withdraw from external stimuli in order to process all that has gone before and reassess all of the data that has been inputted. I will write more about Mercury's retrograde period in next month's report, but for now you would do well to incorporate more mental rests into your busy schedule while the concurrent transits of the Sun and Mars are asking you to step up to the plate.
