Overview
2020 will likely be the year of reforms, with so many global-political-economic and environment changes taking place that were only hinted at in 2019. Although these changes reflect a year of uncertainty, there is at least a sense that things are happening. This is because of planets moving into sidereal Capricorn, a movable sign, including its ruling planet Saturn.
There are 7 eclipses if you count Dec 26, 2019 amongst them, more than other years, while all 3 solar eclipses occur close to the Solstices; in December 2019, June and December 2020. In the background, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction shows bigger changes in power structures and borders, just as we saw in 2019, while Jupiter’s long conjunction with Pluto throughout the year shows a re-drafting of laws and policies which will need to be put in place to keep some sense of order. Mars joins the planets in Sagittarius and Capricorn in the spring, reflecting more acute reactions and explosive events in February and March. And then soon after, from the end of March to the end of May, all the planets are on one side of the Moon’s nodes, making for an extremely potent but volatile period as they transit destructive lunar mansions (Ārdrā and Mūla).
This leads to more war-like situations in the spring. By September, the nodes move into Taurus and Scorpio, shifting the emphasis from a ‘crisis of meaning’ (Gemini-Sagittarius) to an existential crisis and fears around resources (Taurus-Scorpio). After the year in conjunction with Pluto, Jupiter’s conjunction with Saturn finishes the year on a sombre note, but we must keep the faith in something we cannot see, as well as something more than money, as we will likely see world economies on the brink of collapse by the end of the year and into 2021. Thankfully, Saturn’s strength promotes responsible reactions and a complete reboot this time around, unlike the last time Jupiter met with Pluto 12 years ago (2008).
We will need a spiritual perspective, remaining centred in something that isn’t changing, as big changes within global-political-economic and environment structures continue to push boundaries, forcing some to retreat, furthering a nationalistic approach to the problem of immigration, as well as individuals considering their own boundaries, possibly retreating to deal with big issues in their own lives.
Others may feel forced to push back and rebel against more powerful entities, including governments and big businesses which attempt to take a firmer hold throughout 2020.
All the planets are retrograde in 2020 and when this is added to all the conjunctions and eclipses, we can see this as change, followed by review, then more change and further review! Thankfully, all the visible planets are in great dignity during the year, helping us make the necessary adjustments. 2020 is all about getting real, doing what needs to be done, while finding out better ways to direct our attention in the world around us and in our imagination. As planets gather in Capricorn, they leave Sagittarius so we can get clear about which direction is right to take.
Without clear advice and insight guiding us, we cannot venture forward and build anew. Sometimes, venturing forward requires we retrace our tracks, before we eventually see the route up ahead. 2020 is a year knuckle down and just get on with it – whatever ‘it’ is for you personally, but merely the beginning of a new decade of great change on our planet.
The time for philosophising is over and needs to be replaced with action. For all the fear that existed in 2019, it has shown up as mainly inaction and gloomy anticipation, which now leaves way for a matter-of-fact approach in 2020. The archer of Sagittarius has aimed his arrow. Let’s make sure we aim our arrow high, and that we are all clear about our ideals, as the hard work of seeing our vision become a reality requires all our strength and conviction.
Dig deep and find you have the resources within to make the internal, and external, changes that are required.

January
After the annular solar eclipse in Sagittarius on Dec 26, 2019 the partial lunar eclipse on Jan 10 in Gemini closes an eclipse window which sees 2020 begin as it means to continue; with lots of change. Mars will transit these eclipse degrees in the coming weeks, sparking events that change the conversation in relation to ethics, beliefs, law and order.
The biggest astrological event to happen in January is the Saturn-Pluto conjunction on Jan 12. Although exact on this date, we have already been living with this powerful conjunction in 2019, as they came within a few degrees of each other. This is one that not only changes the conversation, but changes history, as borders and power structures are dismantled and reformed throughout 2020.
Uranus stations direct in Aries on Jan 11 so there is an increased impetus to makes more changes in this action-oriented sign. When we consider Saturn and Pluto’s entry into the movable sign Capricorn along with Uranus’ direct motion in the movable Aries, we are likely to see more things happening from the very start of the year. This contrasts with the hesitancy of 2019.
Mercury and the Sun move into Capricorn on Jan 13 and 14, just before Saturn. This sees Mercury cross the path of the Sun by mid-month, sparking some insights and revelations during the lunar eclipse on Jan 10.
After the intensity of the full Moon and partial lunar eclipse, we experience the return and reset of the new Moon on Jan 24, again, highlighting the sign Capricorn, hinting at what’s to come in 2020 as we pay close attention to this area of life. Then, Saturn moves into Capricorn on Jan 24, initiating a fresh new start. This is a wake-up call – for us all.

February
Venus moves into its sign of exaltation, Pisces from Feb 2 and gives the month some positive influence despite global concerns and some extreme events due to Mars’ transit over the recent eclipse degree, triggering either a cyber or actual attacks - probably both. Venus in Pisces reflects the need for unity during periods of war, or the love of the finer things in life during periods of tension.
Mercury moves into sidereal Aquarius on Jan 30, before slowing in transit, preparing to retrograde from Feb 17 until Mar 10. It does so in Aquarius which brings more focus to humanitarian concerns. Mars moves towards the end of Sagittarius and joins forces with Pluto, fuelling actions that can be explosive, before moving into an even stronger position in Capricorn by the end of March. As it does so, it joins Saturn, promising a tense period for global affairs and further attacks on structures, as we deal with perceived limitations in our own lives.
The full Moon in Cancer on Feb 13 begins a period of withdrawal into Aquarius by the new Moon on Feb 23, just after Mercury stations retrograde in the sign, drawing us back to review the bigger issues.
Pluto moves into Capricorn on Feb 25 and for the next few months it will hang out at the first degree of the sign, a powerful position to instigate building something new, which must first involve tearing down the old. This may include more explosive events that clear more than we can imagine, as Mars and the south eclipse point come together during the last week of February. This is highly volatile and likely to be expressed in some explosive events based on strongly-held beliefs. We must be particularly mindful of the end of February being a highly volatile period.

March
Venus moves into Aries on Feb 28 and we have another day in February as this year is a ‘leap year’. The full Moon in Leo on Mar 9 seeks to redistribute power in the world, while the day after the full Moon Mercury stations direct in Aquarius, with an eagerness hanging in the air.
The Sun enters Pisces on Mar 14 and is followed by a new Moon in the sign on Mar 24. This new Moon is a new lunar year in the Vedic calendar and an important new start. The most striking configuration for the year is the combination where all planets, including the outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, are all on one side of the nodes. This is called Kala Sarpa Yoga in Vedic astrology, meaning ‘snake of time’ and can make events feel fated, for good or ill, while providing unpredictable and exaggerated results throughout April and May.
Mars enters its sign of exaltation, Capricorn on Mar 22, first meeting Pluto and then Saturn placed therein. Expect to see things blow up. Hopefully, not literally.
One of the nicer transits of the year begins when Venus enters Taurus, its own sign, on Mar 28, where it will remain for longer due to its upcoming retrograde transit. This helps to sooth us in times of uncertainty, creating an environment to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. The other big shift, which is not so ‘nice’, is Jupiter's entry into its sign of debilitation, Capricorn on Mar 30. Thankfully, its debilitation is cancelled by Saturn’s transit.

April
Mercury moves into Pisces on Apr 7, just before the full Moon in Virgo on Apr 8. This brings into contrast a sense of managing the endings and new beginnings of spring, while letting things be as they are for a time, accepting that we cannot understand all the reasons why things happen as they do. ‘Nothing happens. All is’.
Then, when the Moon begins to wane and passes the planets in Sagittarius it places all the planets on one side of the lunar nodes again, from Apr 15 to 27. This makes us feel bewildered and bemused at what seems to come out of nowhere, or the extremes which are possible during this configuration.
The new Moon is in Aries on Apr 23 and Mercury enters Aries on Apr 24, moving out of its sign of debilitation, and leaving behind the confusion for a more directed approach.
Pluto stations retrograde on Apr 26, at the first degree of Capricorn, which sees Pluto return to Sagittarius in June, reflecting a further deconstruction of laws that govern and dictate how our New World Order is built.

May
Mars moves into Aquarius on May 4, out of its exalted position but also out of Saturn’s aspect. Aquarius is still very much the territory of Saturn, but it brings with it the influence of the north node which leads to taking new avenues of adventure. All of this is confused with the presence of Neptune in Aquarius, of course, as society’s ills are ill-suited to the planet of fantasy; now being met by the planet of action.
The full Moon is in Libra on May 7, opposite Uranus in Aries, and requires us to balance selfish concerns with compromise. Mercury enters Taurus on May 9, bringing further emphasis to the enjoyments of the summer.
Saturn stations retrograde on May 11, while Jupiter stations retrograde on May 15, both within a few degrees of each other in Capricorn. Although a weak position for Jupiter, its weakness is cancelled somewhat by Saturn’s strength, as well as its retrograde transit. Reversing decisions previously made without enough insight is the theme of Jupiter’s retrograde, while reworking and retesting these are Saturn’s.
Venus stations retrograde in Taurus on May 13, a strong placement for Venus, but another indication of a big review beginning in May, particularly in relation to the economy, as Venus and Jupiter are retrograde in earth signs. Relationships of all kinds are under review now also.
The combination with all planets on one side of the nodes is in effect once again from May 12 to 24, as the Moon transits the planets on one side of the lunar nodes in Gemini and Sagittarius. Along with the retrograde stations in May of Saturn, Jupiter and Venus in earth signs, this adds a lot of uncertainty around the practicalities of life, and yet an intense need to experience these all the same.
The new Moon in Taurus on May 22 grants us a pause to appreciate all we have to be grateful for during all the change and uncertainty. Mercury moves into a stronger position on May 24 as it enters Gemini and begins to slow in its transit as it prepares to join the other planets in retrograde motion. A major summer review is in order.

June
The full Moon in Scorpio on Jun 5 is also a partial lunar eclipse, bringing change upon change and more to review, while Mercury moves past the lunar nodes and finally breaks the yoga of planets on one side of the nodes. This breaks the spell somewhat, but the eclipses of June and July hang in the air like dust that has yet to settle.
The Sun enters Gemini on Jun 14, as Mercury stations retrograde in the same sign from Jun 18 to Jul 12, casting our minds back over recent events, while Mars enters Pisces on Jun 18 and asks us to let things drift for a while.
The new Moon in Gemini on Jun 21, the day after the Solstice, is a turning point, and an annular solar eclipse; so, a big turning turn and new beginning at the middle of the year; a pivotal point in a pivotal year. Neptune stations retrograde in Aquarius on Jun 23, before Venus stations direct in Taurus on Jun 25, making some things seem unclear and some practical things seem certain.
Jupiter and Pluto conjoin by exact degree and re-enter the last degree of Sagittarius on Jun 30. Jupiter will remain with Pluto for much of the period between March and November, guaranteeing we remove falsity from our lives, but only by being more aware of all that is working against our own best interests.

July
There is a full Moon and partial lunar eclipse in Sagittarius on Jul 5, as the Moon joins Jupiter and Pluto in the sign of religion, laws and ethics; for another shake down, and shake up, as more things are brought to light, from some very dark places. Eclipses always brings things to light, but whether or not we are open to seeing these depends on individual circumstances.
Mercury stations direct in Gemini on Jul 12, reflecting a sense of anticipation in a particularly mentally stimulating period. The Sun moves into Cancer on Jul 16 and is joined by the Moon for the new Moon on Jul 20, reflecting the need for some down time at home after all the recent changes. Venus enters Gemini on Jul 31, leaving the comforts of Taurus, to enjoy playing with others for a while.

AUgust
Mercury enters Cancer on Aug 1, just as the Moon moves into the opposite sign Capricorn for the full Moon on Aug 3. This balances home time with a need to address practical matters in the world.
Uranus stations retrograde in Aries on Aug 16, just as the Sun enters Leo and Mars enters Aries, bringing more heat, more passion, and yes, more volatility. Mars is particularly strong in Aries, but conjoined Uranus it is overexcited and unpredictable.
Mars’ initial ingress into Aries is a tentative new start to projects, as Mars will move back over into Pisces in retrograde motion by Oct 4. Mars is now out of Saturn’s aspect and this freeing up the pressure may be realised in very unpredictable ways. Managing immediate desires will be at the forefront of a year that is asking us to be more accountable about our long-term plans and goals.
Mercury joins all the planets in Leo on Aug 17, adding communications to the fire, while the Moon joins in for the new Moon in Leo on Aug 19. This is likely to spark some heated situations.

September
Venus enters Cancer on Aug 31, moving through the soft sign of home and family, contrasting this with worldly concerns, and a good time to take some time out, especially as Mars retrogrades. Mercury enters its sign of exaltation, Virgo on Sep 2 and there is a full Moon in Aquarius on the same day. Mercury’s strength impels us to take care of the business of the day.
Mars stations retrograde in Aries on Sep 10, fuelling a fire for inner change as it transits the same sign as a retrograde Uranus, leading to frustration if the energy is directed to outward pursuits which require patience. Jupiter stations direct in Sagittarius on Sep 13, which brings it back in exact conjunction with Pluto by November, further emphasising a complete reform of laws and policies that govern our lives in 2020.
The Sun enters Virgo on Sep 16 and is joined by the Moon for the new Moon on Sep 17. The nodes of the Moon move signs in September. Using the true node positions, they move on Sep 19, while the mean nodes move on Sep 24. Either way, September sees a transition from Gemini and Sagittarius to Taurus and Scorpio. This shows the emphasis shifting from advancement in technologies and a lack of ethics, to a focus on comforts and a deeper sense of vulnerability and profound psychic change.
Mercury enters Libra on Sep 22 and Venus enters Leo on Sep 27, while the north node in Venus’ sign begins to alter our perceptions around money and comforts. Saturn stations direct at the beginning of Capricorn on Sep 29, making the month feel stuck in many ways, as much needed reforms gather strength and are finally implemented.

October
There is a full Moon on Oct 1 in Pisces, and Mars re-enters Pisces on Oct 4 in retrograde motion, moving back over a sensitive gap between the more directed and forceful Aries, and the mysterious and paradoxical Pisces. It might feel as if we are swimming backwards against a strong current.
Pluto stations direct in Sagittarius on Oct 5, at the same degree it met with Saturn at the very beginning of the year, tethering on the edge of a New World Order. Mercury stations retrograde on Oct 14 in Libra and is joined by the Sun in Libra on Oct 17. This shows a need to review finances and relations, either between individuals or countries, as the energy dwindles, requiring compromise.
Venus enters Virgo on Oct 23, where we feel more critical, of ourselves and others. There is a second full Moon in the month, on Oct 31. This is a playful and tricky full Moon in Aries for Halloween, as Mercury slows its transit in the opposite sign Libra in preparation to move direct, showing many more tricks than treats, as things turn around and move forward once again in all our relations.

November
Mercury stations direct at the beginning of Libra on Nov 4, increasing excitement at moving forward, as we see Mars station direct in Pisces on Nov 14. This is the first time all the visible planets are in direct motion since the beginning of the year.
The new Moon in Libra on Nov 15 joins the Sun at the last degree of Libra, before the Sun moves into Scorpio on Nov 16. This is the ‘darkest night’ in many ways, as the Sun is debilitated for the new dark phase of the Moon. Venus enters Libra on Nov 16, so there are things to enjoy from this reset point and new seeds to plant.
Jupiter conjoins Pluto by exact degree for one last time on Nov 9, before re-entering Capricorn on Nov 20. This is one of the signature transits of 2020, showing a reform of our worldview in times of big structural changes. Mercury enters Scorpio on Nov 28, before a full Moon and partial eclipse in the opposite sign, Taurus on Nov 30, bringing us deeper into the year with a sense of vulnerability around practical changes that must be made at this time. Neptune joins the other planets in direct motion on Nov 29, leaving only Uranus in retrograde motion in Aries, highlighting inner changes that must occurs moving forward.

December
Venus enters Scorpio on Dec 10, bringing more emphasis to a sign and area of life that is primed for big changes by the end of 2020. The new Moon in Scorpio on Dec 14 is a total solar eclipse, at the very end of Scorpio, a sensitive juncture of the zodiac and in the year. Just after the eclipse, Jupiter and Saturn conjoin by exact degree, on Dec 21, the Solstice, marking a big turning point in the year and for the following decade. This is a reset point in so many areas of life, including the economy. Mars re-enters Aries on Dec 24, just after the Saturn-Jupiter conjunction, transiting another sensitive juncture between Pisces and Aries, further emphasising big transitions at the year’s end.
The full Moon in Gemini on Dec 30 sees Pluto return to Capricorn, where it will remain for the next two decades, reshaping systems and the establishment for ever more. We will likely feel sensitive to the changes that fuel a sense of vulnerability around big themes of life and death at the end of the year.
It may be easy to lose hope at this time of year, unless you remind yourself of your purpose, from both a practical and spiritual perspective. With the sign Capricorn emphasised throughout the year, it may be easy to slip into negative thinking about humanity's future direction at this stage but remind yourself that whatever happens it is pointing us to the spiritual lesson of ‘beingness’ with all the changes happening. Sometimes, as in 2020, these changes seem more acute.
