On May 27, 2023, Jupiter joins Rahu at 8 degrees of Sidereal Aries. This is known as Guru Chandala Yoga in Vedic Astrology, the shadow of the eclipse casting doubt on the growth and clarity of Jupiter. The last time they met in Sidereal Aries was in 1929, in the lead up to a devastating stock market crash.
There are some dire warning signs ahead in 2023, but there is also hope for something completely new to replace the old paradigm.
The term 'Black Swan Theory' was developed by writer Nassim Nicholas Taleb in his book of the same name. They are events we are blindsided by, events that have a huge impact on world affairs.
According to Taleb, a Black Swan has three attributes:
The first point suggests Taleb does not follow astrology, while the third sounds a lot like what we astrologers do all the time!
Jupiter-Rahu conjunctions bring inflated, unreal situations, and shocks. The last time they met was in 2016, in Sidereal Leo, was when Brexit and Donald Trump shook things up in the world order. We're still reeling from those events, with consequences of Brexit only now being fully appreciated.
The shake up that's due in 2023 is likely to be as, if not more, long-lasting, especially in relation to the economy and the ongoing war.

According to Taleb, a Black Swan has three attributes:
- 'First, it is an outlier, as it lies outside the realm of regular expectations, because nothing in the past can convincingly point to its possibility.
- Second, it carries an extreme 'impact'.
- Third, in spite of its outlier status, human nature makes us concoct explanations for its occurrence after the fact, making it explainable and predictable'.
The first point suggests Taleb does not follow astrology, while the third sounds a lot like what we astrologers do all the time!

I photographed a black swan (yes, literally) when it arrived in Galway where I live in 2017. This occurred just as Uranus entered Sidereal Aries; another indicator of a Black Swan Event.
The swan is connected to Jupiter through a yoga or combination called Hamsa (Swan) Yoga in Vedic astrology. This occurs when Jupiter is in an angle in its own sign (Sagittarius or Pisces) or sign of exaltation (Cancer), and is seen to bestow all manner of positive Jupiter qualities on the individual born under such an auspicious configuration. Jupiter can make the person express the more positive attributes of Jupiter, just like the swan, full of poise and grace.
When Jupiter meets with Rahu, however, it is called a Guru Chandala Yoga, as the usual gracefulness of Jupiter, of doing the right thing, even knowing what the hell to do, is lost in the shadows of Rahu.
We could call Guru Chandala Yoga a 'Black Swan Yoga'.
While the 2016 conjunction took place in Sidereal Leo, a sign of leaders, in 2023, Jupiter meets with the shadow of Rahu, before meeting with Uranus, in Aries, the sign of war.
2016 just so happened to be when Uranus first entered Sidereal Aries, with more obvious expressions of this throughout its transit here. Jupiter's entry into Aries by the end of April 2023, is likely to create yet another black swan event in the ongoing war, one that leads to further shake ups; in the economy; on the world stage.
Rahu's aspect to the 12th sign from it, the sign Taurus, shows the impact wars have on the economy.
The last time Jupiter and Rahu came together in Sidereal Aries in May of 1929 saw an eclipse occur that has many similarities with the April 2023 eclipse. Not only do both eclipses appear in the same region of the zodiac, they just so happen to appear in the same region of the globe (see below).

Update Apr 9, 2023
Both eclipses occur in the South/East Asia and the Pacific region which is currently under intense scrutiny as China simulates strikes against targets on Taiwan for a second day. A Rahu eclipse in Aries, in the same region of the zodiac and the globe as the 1929 eclipse, shows the potential for escalation in the region, which would only serve to exacerbate a financial meltdown.

Both Jupiter-Rahu conjunctions in Sidereal Aries (1929 and 2023) have Mars, the sign's ruler, in debilitation, in Cancer. Mars rules real estate. Its debilitation during the eclipse in Aries, before its conjunction with the South Node Ketu in Libra by Oct 2023, is why I think this is going to lead to another housing and stock market crash.
There may be many shocks to the system throughout 2023, just as there were in 1929. These are likely to lead to a major crash in Oct/Nov 2023, at it was in 1929.
This is also due to other transits alongside the Jupiter-Rahu conjunction, including Mars' conjunction with Ketu in October, and a debilitated Venus conjunction with Ketu in November, as the Sun enters its sign of debilitation in Venus' sign, Libra.
Our only hope is that it is handled differently this time around, with new technologies and cryptocurrencies implemented by governments to rescue the situation. Either way, we must all change the way we trade and bank moving forward, as Uranus enters Sidereal Taurus from 2024. This is when the new economic systems are likely to come online.
Specifically, the market crash is likely to occur in the U.S., when other transits are taken into account; in particular, the Pluto return for the American Independence chart of 1776. This is the first time Pluto returns in this chart, highlighting the challenges for the U.S. dollar, and thus, the world economy.

We're likely to see more extremes in the war in Ukraine as Jupiter and Rahu come together by the end of May, more shocking developments and further loss of life, as the shadow is cast over Jupiter.
Adding further complexity, Pluto comes into an exact square to the lunar nodes, Rahu and Ketu, which is likely to show all kinds of events that seem fated and out of control.
Jupiter represents righteousness, life itself. When it is overshadowed by Rahu, and caught up in the Pluto-Lunar Nodes square, life may be disrespected, deceit is likely commonplace, but decisions that are made may not reveal themselves as fraudulent for some time.
Greedy Rahu's influence on Jupiter shows that not everyone's best interest is taken into account. There may be a sense of being 'hoodwinked'.
Whatever you think about Brexit, people were deceived, and made their decision based on that. Many people regret it now that the repercussions are clearer.
Jupiter represents growth. When it's overshadowed in the sign of war this year it could show further escalation beyond Ukraine's borders. Rahu doesn't know boundaries. The planet of growth conjunct the disrupter Rahu is what suggest more bubbles, more inflationary cycles which eventually lead to a collapse later in the year.
Decisions that are taken at this time have a long-lasting impact. As in 2016, Rahu shows the lengths some go to to get the desired result - whatever the cost.
Rahu is the collective shadow, even a collective psychosis. Individually, it represents the ability to step over anyone to get what we want, even if we would never admit to it.
We must keep an open mind as Rahu and Jupiter conjoin in 2023, especially in May/June. Things are not as they seem. It doesn't help that their ruler, Mars is in Cancer, in debilitation, during their exact conjunction in late May. This is likely to lead to less than appropriate responses to what is happening.
Although Rahu leaves Aries by Oct 30, 2023, its subsequent transit in Jupiter's sign Pisces continues to cast a shadow over Jupiter, leaving us unclear about what the hell transpired, at least until Jupiter enters Sidereal Taurus by April 2024.
But before Jupiter is out of the woods, yet another Black Swan Event is likely to occur by April 2024 as Jupiter meets with Uranus at the end of Aries on Apr 21, 2024, just as Mercury retrogrades in Pisces along with Rahu and Neptune.
More shadows. More confusion. More shocks, it seems.
Whatever Black Swan Events occur in 2023 and 2024, we are likely to be dealing with the aftermath for many years to come.
As Mark Twain is quoted as saying, "History never repeats, but it does often rhyme". We may need to very long step back from what is likely to occur in 2023 to be able to see the rhyme and reason.
The changes these transits suggest may be even more extreme in 2024, but perhaps these are changes that should have occurred by late 2023. After the initial shock in 2023, we're likely to be willing to do the necessary, or have no choice left, whether this is a new digital currency or some grass roots movements and financial incentives.
This is where an unlikely hero in the planetary line-up may come to the rescue; that is, Saturn.
Saturn's transit in Aquarius from 2023 to 2025 highlights the need for social welfare which may help rescue many from the economic shocks. Saturn's aspect to the planets in Aries shows a more mature response, one that takes the long term view into account.
We can look to Saturn to give thanks for what we do still have, instead of being greedy for something that is not meant for us, a greed that creates all kinds of issues down the line.
We can even imagine that what we have is lost; that everything is taken away. If we think about how transient everything in our lives is, we appreciate it more while we still have it.
In doing so, we can be grateful for what we have, while being open to the unexpected events ahead.
