Jupiter represents cycles of growth. As it moves around the zodiac in cycles of 12 years it brings more lessons with it, deepening our understanding, expanding our awareness and our lives through external growth. Most of the time, expansion is very much welcomed.
While it transits Sagittarius, it connects us to our truth, our ideals, the truth of who we are, while leaving plenty of room for intellectual debate and fact checking! But whether something is true or not from a more objective standpoint, we first ask ourselves what we believe. Truth, and the lack of it, has been a particularly antagonized domain in recent years due to Pluto, Saturn and the south node’s transit in Sagittarius. Yet it is a necessary step in getting to the truth of the matter, one which leads to a more objective appraisal (Capricorn); a sort of ‘practice what you preach’ type of thing. Now that Jupiter is about to enter Sagittarius, it's time to get clear about your truth, before you can test it in the 'real world'.
The following sign, Capricorn is where Jupiter is debilitated, at its weakest, because subjective truth rarely, if ever, stands up to cold, hard facts. I’m sure you'd agree - but I guess the point is, you probably wouldn’t! - that some things you believe are not true from a more objective standpoint. There is no time for wishful thinking when the demands of Capricorn force you to see things as they are, not as you would like them to be.
Although this is where we are heading in 2020, for now, Jupiter in Sagittarius is all fired up and ready to go. Which means we’re going to see a lot of strongly expressed opinions in the coming months. Although this is a great time to connect with your subjective experience, with the potential of more meaningful exchanges, everyone expressing their truth leads to potential of many more disagreements and fighting for one's beliefs.
Jupiter swiftly moves through Sagittarius from November 4, 2019 until it reaches Capricorn by March 30, 2020. It then backs into Sagittarius on June 30, and then back again into Capricorn by November 20. Jupiter’s back and forth in its own sign (Sagittarius) and sign of debilitation (Capricorn), reflects the many ups and downs we are likely to experience in the coming months; the merry go round of thoughts about what is truth, as well as the probable economic roller coaster we’re going to experience due to one of Jupiter’s main outer significations: the economy.
Mūla Nov 4, 2019 – Jan 4, 2020
Jupiter's ingress into Sagittarius is uncertain in early November, as any new beginning is, but more so because Jupiter crosses the juncture between Scorpio and Sagittarius, requiring us to have faith in what we cannot see yet. Then, Jupiter is strong in the first 10 degrees of the sign until the December Solstice, and this is a welcome return to more clarity, overall. Any sense of clarity, however, comes about by a removal of all that stands in its way, a type of pruning that must occur as it transits the lunar mansion, Mūla, the domain of the goddess of death and destruction, Niritti. This is known as the 'root' sign, from where we see the galactic centre.
I’ve already seen the plans for a ‘super’ telescope to look deeper into the universe, helping us understand dark matter better than before, ‘to boldly go’, as it were. Mūla gives us insights into our cosmic origins, while personally it’s time to get to the root of something and figure it out for yourself, before moving on with more purposeful action in Capricorn. If you can get clear now, the work that's required later will benefit.
Pūrvāṣāḍhā Jan 4 – Mar 8, and July 26 – Oct 30, 2020
Once Jupiter moves into the next lunar mansion, Pūrvāṣāḍhā in the New Year, there is a lot more optimism available, although this is tempered by Jupiter’s conjunctions with Pluto, the 'lord of the underworld', bringing things up from what seems to be the most inappropriate places hidden in the shadows. Things begin to heat up on the warring front around the world during this period, as everyone has access to more exuberance about their personal beliefs and are willing to fight for them. Although this lunar sign is often translated as the ‘former victorious’, another translation is ‘declarations of war’!
When we think of Sagittarius, we mostly think of this lunar mansion, as those with Sagittarius prominent have a strong sense of belief, but only after they have removed any false beliefs at the Mūla stage. Once we have fought hard for something, we are more likely to fight others about it. This and other transits, including Mars joining the south node, as the south node enters Mūla, promotes further unrest throughout the world in early 2020. You can see why Jupiter’s expansion isn’t always a good thing!
Uttarāṣāḍhā Mar 8 – Jul 26, 2020, and Oct 30, 2020 – Jan 6, 2021
Jupiter moves into the ‘latter victorious’ lunar mansion, Uttarāṣāḍhā by March 8, as we develop a sense of purpose and responsibility for the new life and new world, we are building for ourselves and others. This lunar mansion bridges both Sagittarius and Capricorn, bringing more realism (Capricorn) to our big vision (Sagittarius).
Jupiter and Pluto come into exact conjunction by the end of March in this sign, along with Saturn and Mars, as all planets transit one side of the lunar nodes. This is a potent form of a combination that can change the status quo, exaggerating these planetary positions, for good or ill, while distorting realities. When taken together alongside other transits in 2020, we are guaranteed a lot of volatility.
Jupiter is seen as debilitated in this lunar mansion, at 5 degrees of sidereal Capricorn, and will make it very close to its debilitation degree (3 degrees) by May 2020, before it stations retrograde and backs into Pūrvāṣāḍhā by July 26, having re-entered Sagittarius on June 30. Although Jupiter is weakly placed in Capricorn after March 30, there is a deeply embodied faith in an underlying order in the universe as Jupiter transits the degrees just after its debilitation in 2021, while its debilitation is also cancelled by Saturn’s presence in 2020, further enhancing the necessary adjustments for a 'new world order'.
Other Influences in Sagittarius
Without wishing to rain on this Jupiter parade, we need to inject a good dose of realism into proceedings and plenty of room to manoeuvre as Jupiter transits alongside Pluto, Saturn and the south node (Ketu) in Sagittarius. The last time Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter were together in Sagittarius was during the Reformation in 1518. How would this play out in 2019/2020? Will priests be allowed to marry, or will women be allowed to be ordained as priests? Or perhaps there will be a further split from, and in, religions? Most likely, there will be reforms in religion, as well as the economy and institutions of learning.
There is an initial optimism expressed in late 2019 and early 2020 because of the strength of Jupiter, despite the urgency and volatility of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction. Borders around the world are tested further and reformed. Jupiter moves so fast through the sign that any healing of wounds opened by the other transits is likely to be a temporary sticking plaster before any major reforms in 2020 and beyond. This will probably be expressed through an initial economic downturn and maybe even a recession, before a complete reboot is possible.
As Jupiter enters Sagittarius it meets with the south node (Ketu), in January 2020, just as Saturn meets with Pluto at the other end of the sign. This is a tense background hum to an otherwise hopeful period. Hope may come in the form of things falling apart that made us feel hopeless. During this period, systems and governments are put through their paces, releasing a pressure for change that has been building for some years now.
Jupiter meets with Pluto from March and until November 2020, a longer conjunction then when they previously met in 2007, prior to the 2008 economic crash. This is due to their retrogrades, as they conjunct on 3 occasions, (in March/April, June/July and November 2020) before Jupiter meets with Saturn in December 2020, on the Solstice. As I see it, this jolt to the economy is likely to see a complete reform of economic systems that were not dismantled and rebuilt during the previous crash.

For all Signs
Each rising sign and Moon sign experiences Jupiter’s transit differently. Although there is always some benefit to be had from Jupiter’s expansion, sometimes it is not always obvious. And some Moon signs will experience Jupiter’s transit in Sagittarius more purposefully than others. The Moon signs most positively impacted are Aries, Gemini, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. Leo and Scorpio Moons will particularly benefit from Jupiter’s transit to their 5th and 2nd houses, especially as Saturn transits Capricorn, their 6th and 3rd houses, from the end of January 2020.
To follow are some general indications for each rising and Moon sign. In the interest of keeping things in perspective, as Saturn continues to transit Sagittarius until January 2020, be aware that Jupiter’s strength and ability to bring you more positive results is based on its strength in your horoscope - not just by transit. In other words, although Jupiter in Sagittarius is optimistic and hopeful, you may have Jupiter in Capricorn and no amount of ‘sweet talk’ will make you lose perspective of reality, which can, at times, be a little too realistic, even pessimistic. At its best, Jupiter represents magic, or, in other words, faith in something you cannot see! When things seem hopeless, we need this more than ever. Saturn’s inclusion brings a more practical approach to anything hopeful you're considering.
Also, it all depends on what ‘planetary cycle’ you are currently experiencing. If you are in a Saturn cycle, Jupiter’s transit will help to balance reality with a more idealistic vision of what could be. You may have a vision (Jupiter), but need to work on it (Saturn). But again, it depends on how strong Jupiter is in your horoscope to begin with. If Jupiter is weak in your horoscope, its transit in Sagittarius will mitigate any sense of pessimism, bringing a new sense of what is possible.

Aries: If Aries is your rising or Moon sign, Jupiter moves into your 9th house, instilling a renewed faith after all the turbulence of recent transits have tested your resolve. This is, in a general sense, the way the world experiences Jupiter in Sagittarius, as Aries is the natural first sign of the zodiac. It’s time to connect to a higher truth and wisdom that has been well-earned. Jupiter aspects your own sign, bringing expansion and a new sense of self-confidence that may have been lacking in recent years. This is bolstered by its aspect to your 3rd house, increasing your ability to connect with your interests and communicate these with others. Jupiter may also bring an actual physical expansion, so watch out for too much sweet taste in your diet! Jupiter will also aspect your 5th house which promises to connect you to creative self-expression and your children, if you have any, or creative pursuits, as more playfulness can be expressed when you’re feeling this buoyant and jovial.
Taurus: If Taurus is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to go deeper and heal any traumas you have experienced recently. With all the malefic planets in your 8th house there have been at least some to deal with in recent years. Jupiter now ushers in a new healing, while Saturn and Pluto vacate the lot. Time to make peace with what ails you and reach out to others in your more vulnerable state, so you can go beyond all the hurts and heal. It’s time to connect with the underlying reasons for feeling vulnerable and understand the bigger issues. You may even experience an inheritance, but whether this is in the form of taxable ones or more spiritual ones is another matter. Jupiter’s aspect to your 2nd house expands personal finances, one way or another, while its aspect to your 4th and 12th houses is a positive time spent alone at home, healing.
Gemini: If Gemini is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to welcome a new phase of expansion in your life and in your relationships; your more intimate ones and your everyday ones; your friendships and associations. This is a welcome relief for those with Gemini rising or Moon sign. As Jupiter moves in, Saturn and Pluto move out soon after, leaving you to heal relationships that have been feeling the strain lately. It’s time to connect with your partner, maybe even meet a new partner, as well as connect with friends. If your significant other has been feeling your burdens with you, this is a great time of healing for both of you.
Cancer: If Cancer is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to connect with your work, your daily routines and your health, in a way that can benefit your day-to-day experience. As Jupiter moves, it increases your awareness of the everyday tasks, making them seem more meaningful. Jupiter strongly influences your work life and finances, increasing your connection to what it is you do for a living, perhaps even the amount you get paid for it! You may experience anything from more meaningful work, to a deeper understanding of how your life works, which includes improvements in your daily work and health routines.
Leo: If Leo is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to connect with the benevolence of Jupiter on many levels. This is also due to Saturn’s upcoming transit in Capricorn, which bring practicality to your life while you experience an expanded sense of self, self-expression and a higher mind and philosophy as Jupiter transits your 5th house. Jupiter’s positive expression in this sign and house position is most welcome, allowing you to connect with your children, and/or creativity, bringing out a more playful and creative side, as well as better connections with friends and associates/groups of people.
Virgo: If Virgo is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to spend some quality time at home and to connect more with your parents, especially your mother; all with the idea of creating a safe space for yourself, physically and emotionally. This is needed after all the malefics have changed your home environment and challenged stability in recent years. Jupiter’s transit ushers in a new period of connecting deeply with loved ones in a private setting, including your partner, which will help fuel your worldly activities and work, giving you the time to heal deeper aspects of the psyche that may have been neglected of late due to other demands.
Libra: If Libra is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to listen more to those around you, to be able to hear what is being communicated for you to grow. It’s also a time to listen to how you communicate with others, as well as yourself; the things you say to yourself every day and whether you could do with creating an orderly and positive space for more growth. Jupiter’s aspects help you heal relationships, especially with your partner, we well as with friends, as you learn to listen carefully to what they are trying to communicate with you.
Scorpio: If Scorpio is your rising or Moon sign, this is time to increase your finances, as well as your self-value and sense of self-worth. These are all connected, of course, i.e. if you value yourself, you can earn more. Jupiter’s aspects increase work opportunities which is another indication of a growth of your bank balance, but Jupiter also points to a deeper growth; in knowledge and insight. You will benefit from Jupiter and Saturn’s transit from January 2020 in particular, as Saturn moves into your 3rd house of effort, putting all those big ideas to work. This is a more hopeful and buoyant period.
Sagittarius: If Sagittarius is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to welcome your ruling planet back home, and a return to your sense of self and self-confidence; after the last few years of taking a beating from the malefics; Saturn, in particular. This is a breath of fresh air, or perhaps a better expression would be: this will give you space to breath at last! Saturn and the south node have created a conflict of interests, a need to work hard (Saturn) and yet give up (Ketu). Now Jupiter brings a renewed faith and optimism and a better time to connect with your partner, children and/or your creative self-expression when you're feeling better.
Capricorn: If Capricorn is your rising sign or Moon sign, this is time to quietly reflect on all the changes that have taken place in recent years, including all the things you have had to say goodbye to. Saturn’s transit in your sign from January 2020 will back up Jupiter’s transit, making it easier to heal a more private place in your being as you get on with rebuilding your life. This allows you to access a deeper sense of peace, at home, on your own or with others at work, while you heal the traumas of the last few years.
Aquarius: If Aquarius is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to connect to others more deeply. As Jupiter moves into your friend zone and strongly aspects your creative self-expression, and communication, you can find the words, or simply listen to what important people in your life have to say. This is an expansive period for all relations, while you personally prepare to clean the slate and start again with a renewed sense of self in the coming years.
Pisces: If Pisces is your rising or Moon sign, this is a time to expand on your work life, connecting more deeply to the everyday work you do, as well as with those you work with, making the most of the financial rewards of a job well done. Your ruling planet, Jupiter is in a strong position and is a welcome return to more confidence; if you can let go of certain aspects of yourself and your work life that have long since lived out their life span. Enjoy the fruits of your labour, with time spent enjoying these at home, loving what you do and who you do it with.
