Venus in Gemini May 2 - May 30 Venus moves through Mercury's sign in May, as Mercury moves through Venus' sign. This exchange of signs between the two active planets creates a playful interaction for the beginning of summer. This makes us more inquisitive, preferring to see options as opposed to making definite decisions. Keep things loose and carefree as much as possible in May. This is especially important when we consider Mercury's retrograde period by the middle of the month and Venus' transit to the sign, Ardra. Enjoy the interactions that are possible, but try to step back from being over-stimulated. Full Moon in Libra May 4 The Moon is exactly opposite to the Sun at 03.43 UT. This full Moon is in Libra, the opposite sign to Aries. This period is a time to balance our selfish concerns (Aries) with others' needs (Libra). As the Moon waxes during the first week of May, this balance is not without its tensions, as we grapple with our own needs being met while looking out for others in our lives. The transit of the Moon to Rahu, the north node, and then its transit between Rahu and Saturn, brings emotional stress which needs an outlet. The full Moon and subsequent days sees an opposition to the Mars combustion as it changes signs, which can trigger us, as well as event worldwide. Try not to let others be your outlet for your stress as this will only compound an already tense situation. Mars in Taurus May 4 - June 15 Mars has recently created a lot of havoc while strong and in combustion in its own sign Aries. The earthquake in Nepal and social unrest have been the result of Mars flexing his mighty power. Mars adds a spark to an already tense situation, and the Earth itself can give way, while our interactions can break down into arguments at the very least. During Mars' destructive transit through Aries, it was also placed in the lunar sign known as Bharani which is itself a destructive sign, being ruled by Yama; the God of death. Some may have experienced this destruction as a positive experience i.e., riding yourself of the unnecessary. However, many have experienced this as devastating. When there is too much Mars energy available, there needs to be a release. This can come in the form of explosive events. Mars is placed in combustion at this time also, which adds fuel to the fire and sending a difficult 8th house aspect to Scorpio with Saturn retrograde therein. Another example of this is the fires in Ukraine threatening to redistribute radioactivity at Chernobyl. The Chernobyl disaster occurred the last time Saturn transited Scorpio and Mars looking on has reignited the situation. Mars moves from the fiery Aries into the sign Taurus on May 4. It is at least out of a fiery domain and transiting a more placid sign. However, it is together with a retrograde Mercury (exact on May 26) and opposite Saturn (exact on May 15) for its stay in Taurus. This can lend itself to a more considered approach to communications, while Venus in Gemini adds some flexibility. However, the more negative repercussions of this transit include a self-centered approach with a good dose of stubbornness. Whenever Mars and Saturn face-off there is tension in our lives. Those with Aries or Scorpio rising signs will feel this the most. However, we all feel the push-pull of this transit, especially by May 15. Choose your words and your actions carefully, and step back, allowing for a focus of intention, not a scattering of attention. Sun in Taurus May 14 - June 14 By the time the Sun moves into Taurus, the heat starts to taper off a bit. However, Mars is still in combustion and keeps the fires burning all the same. The Mars impulse gets mixed into the Sun's impulse which leads to selfishness if we cannot take the high road and see others' points of view. The Sun in Taurus is a time when life comes into full bloom on the northern hemisphere and we can take the time out with Mercury's retrograde period asking us to step back from our usual business. Allow for time to enjoy the simple pleasures in life in May and June. New Moon in Taurus May 18 The new Moon is on May 18 at 04.15 UT, coming to its exact degree of exaltation in Taurus. Although this is a positive position for the Moon, we must consider the waning Moon's effect as being less than positive in any worldly sense and the Moon's position opposite Saturn as a sober affair. Every time the Moon enters its sign of exaltation we can tune into those things which bring joy in a very real sense. These may be time shared with family around the dinner table or enjoying the simple pleasures of life with those we value and care for. However, because Saturn is placed opposite in Scorpio for the next two years, we cannot help but be reminded that all of these things are transitory and can be taken away from us at any time. So, the only thing to be done at this time is to view these pleasures with a joyful detachment. Mercury Retrograde in Taurus May 19 - June 11 Mercury reaches the point it will move back to in June by May 4, entering its shadow phase as it does so. Our minds enters a sort of suspension, where we get a sense of moving ahead of circumstances. At this time, Mars enters the fray and things get more heated with the planet of aggression coming head-to-head with the planet of communication by May 26. The Mars impulse to move us on runs head-long into Mercury retrograde's impulse to pull us back. This may cause some frustration if we cannot take a more objective view. Mercury retrograde delays practical matters. However, it does so with a prime purpose; so that we can step back and re-evaluate our lives. A life without pause is over before we know it. Enjoy this time of quiet reflection during the long, lazy days of summer. Venus in Cancer May 30 - July 4
Venus enters Cancer and joins Jupiter for the last few weeks of its exaltation. These transits are very significant as we move into the summer and beyond. I will write more about them in next month's report. Venus represents an active impulse; a need to enjoy the pleasures of the world and learn from life through the senses. Jupiter brings an awareness of things beyond the body but allows us to delve deeply into the body for access. The pauses between breaths is one way in. Venus brings us back into the world and our needs which need fulfilling. This can create a bit of a quandary for us as both of these planets move together for the next few months. Jupiter asks us to look for something more meaningful beyond the flesh, while Venus brings those meaningful experiences into flesh to be lived out. Perhaps the next few weeks would be an opportune time to enjoy your connections to others which gives you a sense of security, while at the same time allowing room for magic; reminding you of the profundity of life.
