Hāṭha Yoga & Jyotiṣa
w/Gary O'Toole
Online. Date and time tbc.

The sequences of a hāṭha yoga class are not random. They align with the natural cycles of the cosmos!

Journey with the planets as you shapeshift through the planetary cycles of astrology (daśās) and your personal story; through various combinations and possibilities, before returning to your still centre.

Includes a yoga sequence set to the planetary cycles of Jyotiṣa (Vedic astrology).

Ketu: Starting from Zero
Before you begin to move, realise there’s a ‘part’ of you that never begins or ends. Tune into who is always watching, listening, sensing; simply, being.

Venus: The Pleasure of Being
No matter how slight or exaggerated your movements, feel the pleasure of your physical body as you explore your ranges of motion and current flexibility with gentle flowing movements and joint rotations.

Sun: The Joy of Rhythm
Move with the rhythm of life. Find your rhythm within the Sūrya Namaskār exercises, exploring accessible variations to get your heart pumping and everything in synch.

Moon: The Ebb and Flow
As you find your rhythm, begin to flow. Explore various standing poses reaching out your arms and opening your heart, finding strength and stillness within the flow.

Mars: The Strength of Character
Explore regimented movements that feel empowering, such as warrior poses and callisthenic exercises that build strength.

Rahu: The Exploration of the New
Moving beyond rigid forms, you can explore your boundaries and try something you haven't before, whether a new posture or a new way of approaching a familiar one.

Jupiter: The Expansiveness of Space
Becoming aware of the space that has opened up within you, bring that expanded awareness to the floor and more stillness. Use the comfort of the floor to find more space in your body.

Saturn: The Limitations of Time
As the floor and body begin to feel heavier, use gravity and the floor to hold you, your body to contain you in forward-folding and supine postures.

Mercury: The Curiosity of Life
After coming to rest, you can play a little, lifting yourself up from the floor as channels of communication open up throughout your whole body. Discover your child-like curiosity and playfulness again.

Ketu:  Returning to Source
To finish, bring a sense of stillness with you. Watch. Listen. Sense. Be.
